What criteria must a student meet for admissions?

  • Documented diagnosis of a learning difference such as Asperger's Syndrome, High-Functioning Autism, PDD-NOS, Nonverbal Learning Disorder, ADHD and/or dyslexia
  • Full scale IQ from 75 and up
  • Emotional, behavioral, and psychological stability
  • High level of motivation to meet program goals
  • Potential to live and attend college independently
  • Ages 16-19

How do I apply?

Why does my student need an interview?

The interview process provides additional opportunities for students and parents to meet staff and ask questions. Interviews generally take place using Skype video chat.


Will the summer program include specific CIP programming?

Yes, there will be a variety of classes that students will take part in including social thinking, executive functioning and person-centered planning. Students will also work on independent living skills such as cooking, banking and budgeting, laundry and much more.


Where will the classes be held?

At the college or university where students are residing.


Is there a gym or other work-out activities?

Depending on the CIP Summer Program location, students may have access to the college or university fitness area or the campus recreational center's equipment, often including a pool and exercise classes. Attendees will participate in fund outings such as hiking, swimming, ropes courses and more.


How much supervision will there be?

There will be daily supervision for all activities and overnight staff residing in the dorms with students. Students are expected to adhere to all rules regarding their personal safety and the safety of others and will not be allowed off the campus without supervision. The average staff to student ratio is 1:6.


What should my student bring?

Students should bring at least one weeks worth of clothing that can be easily packed and laundered as well as toiletries (including blow driers, tooth brushes, etc.) They should pack comfortable walking shoes and at least one all-weather jacket. Suntan lotion, a water bottle and a hat are also recommended. Students must bring a valid I.D. and wallet and/or purse for holding a small amount of cash and cell phone. While laptops are allowed, it is recommended that they are left home. Upon acceptance, families are provided with a comprehensive list of items to bring.


How will student’s prescription medications be handled?

Students must show independence with taking medications but will have daily reminders and observation. All prescribed medications will be held by CIP staff and students will check in when appropriate.


How are roommates selected?

CIP will review all applications once a student is accepted and match students with others of similar interest and age as best as possible.


What does the program cost?

The Summer Program cost of $3,975 covers room and board, most meals (besides outings), the majority of activities and 24/7 staffing and support. Families must provide an additional $300 in extra spending money used as a personal budget for the 2-weeks.


Should my student bring a computer?

While laptops are allowed, our summer program is designed to encourage learning, the development of friendships and having fun. Students will not be allowed to take laptops on activities.


What kind of transportation will students use during the summer program?

Students will utilize public transportation, be expected to walk 15-30 minutes in a given day and will use pre-arranged transportation for some outings.


Can transportation to and from the local airport be arranged?

Yes, the cost for transportation to and from the airport is $75 round trip. We will arrange pick-ups for the following airports:

  • Berkeley, CA - Oakland International Airport
  • Chicopee, MA - Hartford International Airport
  • Melbourne, FL - Orlando International Airport
  • Amherst, NY - Buffalo Niagara International Airport
  • Bloomington, IN - Indianapolis International Airport
  • Long Beach, CA - Los Angeles International Airport

Please speak with CIP staff to discuss arrival and departure times prior to booking any flights. If you need transportation from a different airport CIP may be able to accommodate, this will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
