Wellness & Fitness
Wellness Groups and Individual Sessions
CIP’s philosophy is that our students perform at their best when there is a sustained level of wellness in their lives. Wellness sessions are led by an experienced staff member who assists students in creating balance through nutrition education, exercise, stress-reduction practices, sensory diets, and sleep regimens. This is augmented by yoga, walking clubs, group workouts and many other techniques. Students meet with a Wellness Coordinator at least once a week in a group. A personal fitness plan is created for each student. Students may also have individual wellness mentoring sessions if needed.
Individual Clinical Therapy
Individual therapy involves a confidential caring relationship in which students receive validation and guidance to deal with day-to-day frustrations and challenges and learn more about their ability to shape and manage their lives.
The mission of the clinical program is to assist students in understanding their past and learning differences, and to reframe these into new goals, building upon their assets. This helps students to establish a solid foundation for a fulfilling, productive future.
Often coaching is an aspect of therapy. Typical areas of this personal work include:
- Self advocacy
- Assertiveness
- Self esteem
- Forming social relationships
- Self confidence
- Problem solving
- Exploring feelings
- Effective communication
Emphasis is placed on acceptance of self and others while maximizing psychological potential. Through links with the CIP team, the therapist can help students to generalize these skills so that they can apply them in real life situations.
Medication Coordinator
Medication is often a helpful tool for students. Students meet with their own psychiatrist or a psychiatrist is recommended with whom students can meet to assure that their medication continues to be safe and effective. Students who need psychiatric services use their own insurance for compensation. Students will be encouraged to be self medicating at CIP. A Medication Coordinator is available to help students to keep medications organized.
Consulting Medical Services
Students are referred to local physicians and specialists for any medical issues. Students utilize their own insurance or the family will be billed directly for these services.
