Life Skills Instruction
Weekly Cooperative Cooking
The CIP culinary program is designed to create an educating and rewarding aspect of your daily living experience. Enhance your skills, independence and level of confidence in the kitchen. Staff continually encourage and assist students with purchasing and preparing healthy foods.
Meeting with staff to create a weekly menu, students learn what foods taste great together and how they keep you healthy; how to safely prepare food; keep clean-up simple; and save extra food so it stays fresh. CIP students also learn how to follow simple recipes and adapt them to their needs, to modify recipes and keep a recipe box, and pay attention to cooking times.
Students divide up the responsibility of cooking during the week and receive personal staff guidance while cooking in the apartment during the week. Individual cooking instruction is available as part of CIP’s services. These 45 minute sessions include the following:
- Menu Planning
- Comparative shopping
- Buying and serving healthy foods
- Cooking for yourself and small groups
- Food preparation
- Food safety
- Cooking techniques
- Proper cleanup
