Game Development Team - CIP Berkeley
By Matthew Perry, Berkeley Center

At the Berkeley Center, we have been running an innovative internship program since December of 2007 called Game Development Team. One of our staff, Matthew Perry, works as a game designer for a start-up board and card game company called Poplin Press.

Each week, he meets with four of our most game-savvy students to test new game prototypes and brainstorm about possible future game ideas. Poplin's first published game will hopefully come out this spring, and the first game extensively tested and improved by CIP's students is due out by the end of the year.

This program has given these game-minded students a chance to put some real-world gaming work experience on their resumes, and has provided them a chance to work as a team and gain social skills. So far, their input has been extremely valuable for Poplin, and the students have enjoyed being able to put their personal passions to use. Matthew and Poplin hope to expand the program over the course of 2008.
